Kevin Durant only has eight games under his belt with the Phoenix Suns, but he surely plans to go the distance next NBA season. The “Slim Reaper” debuted the Nike KD 16 at the tail-end of the 2022-23 season, promising a full launch for fall.
The last year has seen some of Durant’s early signature shoes return in their original glory to much fanfare. And while some models haven’t experience a retro yet, they’ve had certain colorways appear on newer offerings. Case in point?: The “Aunt Pearl” theme that debuted on the KD 4. Since 2012, the tribute to his fallen aunt has been a mainstay to Durant’s Nike KD line. The KD 16 keeps tradition alive more than 10 years after the original, and boasts two prominent shades of pink across its upper. Textile bases take on a faint hue that’s contrasted by a hot shade animating the mudguards. Flora graphics are etched into the protective wraparound paneling, nodding to Aunt Pearl. The left shoe’s tongue features another floral emblem, while sockliners reference both Durant’s kin and Sandra Kay Yow, the Naismith Hall of Famer that passed from breast cancer in 2009. Lastly, the robust sole unit rounds out the commemorative makeup with layers of pink.
Enjoy retailer photography of the pair ahead, and anticipate a nike.com launch on October 14th. The shoe retails for $170 USD.
